The National Wildlife Federation is expanding its Ranger Rick brand with a new print magazine and storybook app series designed for beginning readers.
The NWF, which also publishes Ranger Rick, one of the longest-running children’s magazines of all time, has designed the new magazine, Ranger Rick Jr., specifically for the interests and reading skills of younger children. Packed with animal facts and photography, Ranger Rick Jr.’s premiere issue will hit stands next month, introducing the new character Ricky Raccoon. Digital editions for Nook and Kindle will also be available.
The new Ranger Rick storybook app series, “Ranger Rick Jr. Appventures,” spotlights a different animal in each app, letting kids explore, create and play their way through a variety of animal adventures.
Developed in partnership with Moonbot Studios, the premier Appventure, “Ranger Rick Jr. Appventures–Lions!” features Ricky Raccoon and his friend Lars the Lion as they take children to the African grasslands to discover how lions live. Combining wildlife photography and animation, children can also go on a photo safari and play the animal piano, an activity that lets children make music using the sounds of wild animals. “Ranger Rick Jr. Appventures” is available now for the iPad in the iTunes App Store.
