Sony Pictures Consumer Products has been appointed by Constantin Film as the global consumer products agent for the upcoming film Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, as License! Global previously reported in June.
Sony is now actively seeking global licensing partners for the brand in apparel and accessories, gift and novelty items, beauty, mobile and social games, stationery, publishing, collectibles and housewares.
The film, which is set to be released Aug. 23, 2013, is based on the first book in the New York Times best-selling young adult series, The Mortal Instruments, which has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. Written by Cassandra Clare, the sixth and final book in the series is scheduled to be released in March 2014.
The story follows teenager Clary Fray (Lily Collins) as she finds out truths about her past when her mom is kidnapped by an unknown creature. Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters who introduce her to an alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires and werewolves.
The film will be released in North America through Screen Gems, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
