Discovery entered into a seven-year deal with VGTRK to acquire and distribute nearly 130 hours of non-fiction programming from Russian producers. The agreement was negotiated by Discovery Enterprises International, the company's program sales and licensing arm.
Under the terms of the agreement, Discovery Communications will be the exclusive worldwide distributor of the Russian library featuring 20th century history programming including the Cold War, World War I, World War II, ancient history, space, culture and civilization. Furthermore, Discovery will air a selection of this programming for the first time in the U.S., as well as internationally.
“Russia’s dynamic production community that creates content with exceptionally high production values,” says Rex Recka, vice president of acquisitions and co-finance at Discovery Enterprises International.
