Cartoon Network Enterprises Taps Mattel as Master ToyLicensee Cartoon Network Enterprises is busy building the licensing program for itsoriginal programming, signing an exclusive, long-term global toy partnershipwith Mattel, Inc. The multi-year, multi-property deal is the first time thenetwork has licensed its brand in the U.S. and covers properties for ages 6 to11 and a first-look option on all newly created original series andprogramming. Under the agreement, Mattel will have licensing rights to multipletoy and game categories including vehicles, action figures, playsets, role-playitems, board games, puzzles, and youth electronics for the Cartoon Networkbrand, as well as shows including Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends; ThePowerpuff Girls; Camp Lazlo; Ed, Edd 'n Eddy; The Grim Adventures of Billy& Mandy; the newly launched My Gym Partner's a Monkey; and The Life &Times of Juniper Lee. Existing relationships for other original series willremain unaffected by the deal. Products for Foster's Home for Imaginary Friendswill hit shelves first in 2007 followed by others for Ed, Edd 'n Eddy; CampLazlo; and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. DIC Entertainment Touts New Movie and President Strawberry Shortcake comes to theaters in October in Sweet Dreams, theproperty's first full-length feature film via a deal between American GreetingsCorp., DIC Entertainment, and Fox Home Entertainment. The CGI-animated filmwill reintroduce the Purple Pie Man character who has not appeared in more than20 years. Lots of support is planned, including an exclusive with Toys "R" Us,Webisodes on the Strawberry Shortcake Friendship Club Website, and e-cards atAmerican Greetings Website . DICand American Greetings, along with their partners, are introducing new product,including a new toy line from Playmates Toys, DVD releases from Fox HomeEntertainment, new video games, a movie soundtrack, a national QSR promotion,and the debut of the Strawberry Shortcake Baby program. In other DIC news, Jeffrey Edell was named president and COO. The appointmentfollows the decision of DIC's former president and COO, Brad Brooks, to returnto investment banking with a position he accepted at Imperial Capital. Brookswill act as a consultant to DIC's senior management in finance and strategyassessment. Bob the Builder Inspires Traveling Museum Exhibit Bob the Builder brings his can-do attitude to kids nationwide with the firsthands-on Bob the Builder-Project: Build It Traveling Museum Exhibit at TheChildren's Museum of Indianapolis, which opened Saturday, June 17. The2,000-square-foot exhibit, sponsored by Delta Faucet Co., replicates elementsfrom Bob the Builder's world in Sunflower Valley, inviting exploration,inspiring teamwork, and bringing "eco-friendly" building themes to life forchildren and families. The exhibit will visit 30 major markets including TheChildren's Museum of Manhattan in New York and The Royal Alberta Museum inEdmonton, Canada, through 2011.
