Editor's Note
So, in the spirit of "showing up," this month's major editorial focus is on the Licensing International 2007 Show, June 19-21 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. Let me tell you that this is one Show you definitely want to "show up" for.
The highlight of this May issue is the official Licensing Show Preview, featuring 31 pages of dedicated editorial coverage of what you will be seeing at the Show (if you show up!). If you are planning to attend Licensing International, I highly recommend you read this special section (beginning on "Show Preview") thoroughly as it will help you decide exactly what properties you wish to focus on and with which companies you
want to schedule meetings. As I asked in my editorial last month: "Is this valuable information for you?" You bet it is! And it's only available fromLicense! Global
.
Speaking of showing up, this issue also features a salute to a show that has been showing up regularly on our TV screens for almost 20 years. Here's a hint: It features a father who is always attempting to impart his wisdom to his son—like my dad! Another hint: It is the longest-running animated TV show in prime-time history with a huge fan base and more than 700 licensees.
It is, of course, "The Simpsons," and this special salute was conceived when we heard about the 400th episode airing this month. Associate Editor Alyson Grala explores this cultural phenomenon, its implications on our society, and the fan base that can't get enough of the merchandise. A group of very active Simpsons' licensees participated in the section with advertising as well, so we thank them for "showing up" as well as creator Matt Groening, who has brought us many laughs over the years with this satirical look at family life.
In June, we will bring you the largest issue of
License! Global
ever published, featuring more exclusive editorial and actionable information that industry executives must have to keep their businesses running successfully. You will also have a new voice on this page, our newly appointed Editor-in-Chief, Tony Lisanti. Tony comes to us with over 20 years of experience at the world's leading retail publications including as Editor-in-Chief of
Retailing Today
and
Drug Store News
. We are lucky to have his insight, knowledge, and wisdom as well as his Rolodex of retail contacts, which is second to none.
With Tony's editorial leadership, you will continue to see a transformation on these pages to bring you more critical information and perspective to help you run your business. And I know that "showing up" at industry events has always been a key part of Tony's career as an opinion leader on retail trends.
