The National Retail Federation’s St. Patrick’s Day Consumer Intentions and Actions survey, conducted by BIGresearch, revealed that 54.4 percent of Americans will celebrate the Irish holiday, the most in the survey’s nine-year history.
While more people will celebrate, the NRF survey reported that the average consumer will spend $35 on the holiday, with total spending of $4.6 billion.
“As a non gift-giving holiday, St. Patrick’s Day really brings out the fun in consumers every year, knowing they can splurge on gimmicky accessories like pins and buttons for their clothes and even home decor items to put their entire family in a festive spirit,” says BIGinsight’s consumer insights director Pam Goodfellow.
