Domestic sales are down in 2011, grossing more than $9.8 billion, versus $10.6 billion in 2010 according to Box Office Mojo. Year-to-date comparisons show a 4.9 decrease in ticket sales from 2010, but a 4.7 percent increase since 2008.
The number one grossing film worldwide this year was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, garnering more than $1.3 billion.

2. Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1.1 billion total gross)
3. Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides ($1 billion)
4. The Twightlight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 ($652 million total gross)
5. Fast Five ($626 million total gross)
