Nick Plans First Asian Theme Park

Sunway Lagoon

Viacom International Media Networks Asia is planning the first Nickelodeon-branded attraction in Asia, in an expanded partnership with the Malaysian construction company Sunway Group.

The Nickelodeon Explorers’ Oasis is planned to open at Sunway Lagoon, a multi-park resort in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, by March 2015.

“This is an ideal location for Nickelodeon to start its theme-based attractions in Asia, which will no doubt open up opportunities for our recreation business in Asia,” says Gerald Raines, vice president, recreation business development, Nickelodeon. “It is also an important next step in boosting the Nickelodeon experience across all facets of entertainment for families across Malaysia and Asia.”

The 10-acre park will feature immersive attractions, an interactive water play area, daily signature slime events, retail shops, games and food service establishments themed with Nickelodeon's hit properties including SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The Sunway Lagoon, located in the Sunway Resort City township, receives 40 million visitors every year.

"Building on the success of earlier collaborations on MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia held at Sunway Lagoon, we’re thrilled to bolster our strategic collaboration with Sunway Group with another exciting Viacom brand," says Indra Suharjono, executive vice president and managing director, VIMN Asia. "Together with Sunway, we anticipate offering a unique Nickelodeon experience to allow kids and their families in Malaysia and around the world, to connect with some of the most beloved Nickelodeon characters in the world.”
