The Sandbox has announced a new partnership with Cloudco Entertainment to showcase Madballs in its metaverse. Since The Sandbox metaverse formed in 2018, it has partnered with a variety of brands, including

Tony Hawk, Snoop Dogg and "The Smurfs". The company previously partnered with Cloudco in 2020 to bring the Care Bears and their Care-a-Lot world to The Sandbox metaverse.

The Madballs collaboration will include the development of digital collectibles and an avatar collection.

“Madballs is a staple of ’80s culture and has a great track record of transcending media formats across generations,” says Sebastien Borget, chief operating officer and co-founder, The Sandbox. “I am excited to see what our community, with its youthful energy, will build using this iconic brand.”

The avatar collection will be based on the original Madballs characters and never-before-seen designs from the ’80s. Offering a first-of-its-kind user experience, the avatars will feature ghastly faces, grotesque names, disruptively funny attitudes and customized and randomly generated traits.

The avatars will also unlock utilities and collect specific rewards during events, including a new multiplayer experience coming out on March 21. When enough utilities and rewards are collected, users will be granted entry to a special reward pool. In addition to access to the reward pool, eligible holders of Madballs avatars will receive a Madballs surprise to pair with a virtual Madballs avatar.

“We’re looking forward to bringing this notorious gang of Madballs to the metaverse for the very first time and are stoked to give our fans the opportunity to engage with the brand in a new, unique way,” says Robert Prinzo, head of global licensing, Cloudco Entertainment.
