Warner Bros. Discovery has announced it has picked up the new CG-animated series, “Barney’s World,” for Cartoonito on Cartoon Network and streaming on Max. The series, announced earlier this year as part of Mattel’s Barney franchise relaunch, will be titled “Barney’s World” and will revamp the character for modern audiences. Co-produced by Mattel Television and Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana, “Barney’s World” will debut globally in 2024.

“Barney’s World” is modernized with dynamic characters and music-filled storylines that highlight themes of love, community and encouragement. Set in a local playground, Barney is joined by dinos, Billy and Baby Bop, and their three kid best friends. Throughout adventures together, Barney helps kids explore big preschool emotions and shows them how to love themselves and others.

“Barney’s World” will be executive produced by Fred Soulie and Christopher Keenan for Mattel Television and by Colin Bohm, Doug Murphy and Pam Westman for Nelvana.

“Barney’s World” is one of the latest properties announced for the Max streaming service. Most of the announced properties are extensions of well-loved IP, including an eight-episode miniseries for “The Batman’s” Penguin, aptly titled “The Penguin,” an “It” prequel called “Welcome to Derry,” a “Gremlins” series called “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” and spin-offs based on “Big Bang Theory” and “The Conjuring.” Another “Game of Thrones” spin-off and a “Harry Potter” series have also been announced.

“Barney’s World” is a continuation of this trend for Max prior to the launch. HBO Max will fold in Discovery+ content at the end of the month to create the mega streaming service. Though Discovery+ will remain a standalone service in the U.S., Max promises to be a single destination for all Warner Bros. Discovery streamable content.

Plans for the Max streaming brand include live content like sports, the addition of more than 40 new titles, new television show seasons and more.
