The chief executive officer of the 100-year-old Jolly Time popcorn brand has formally petitioned Hasbro to offer the option of a popcorn game piece when it replaces one of the classic Monopoly tokens next month.

Hasbro recently launched a consumer campaign to allow fans to choose which current Monopoly token would be retired.

Citing the tradition of popcorn and game, Jolly Time CEO Garry Smith is hoping that a popcorn token will be included among the other current replacement options– a cat, helicopter, robot, guitar and ring.

Voting on the new Monopoly game piece is taking place now on Monopoly Facebook page and will close Feb. 5.
