Licensing Expo is known for connecting brand owners, intellectual properties (IPs) and agencies worldwide in multiple licensing categories. However, this is not the only thing that happens at the tradeshow. Magic Wheelchair, a nonprofit organization that works to provide custom youth wheelchairs, partnered with SEGA, one of the world’s most prolific arcade game producers, to create a Sonic the Hedgehog-themed wheelchair for a young boy named Adin. The wheelchair was revealed on the second day of Licensing Expo 2024 at the Innovation Stage to a large crowd of trade show attendees and was followed by the character parade.

“We are grateful to partner with SEGA to promote inclusion and celebrate the freedom that wheelchairs give us,” says Christine Getman, executive director, Magic Wheelchair. “Adin loves to go fast just like Sonic the Hedgehog, and the wheelchair will help him do just that.”

Some other themes Magic Wheelchair has used to help put smiles on children’s faces include Hulk, Superman, Mario Kart, Toy Story, SpongeBob, pirates and princesses. The non-profit also raises awareness for rare diseases, brings together communities, provides educational opportunities and promotes inclusion for children with disabilities.
