The Indiana Arts Commission has announced that Jim Davis, creator of “Garfield,” is among recipients selected for the Governor’s Arts Awards, which recognizes contributions and achievements in the arts.

Davis was born in Marion, Ind. and attended Ball State University before launching the cartoon strip “Garfield.” He still resides in the state, and his production and licensing company, Paws Inc., is also headquartered there.

The Governor’s Arts Awards will take place April 9 at the Schrott Center for the Arts at Butler University.
