Flying Bark Productions has announced plans for a Maya the Bee 3D movie, the first theatrical release in the brand’s 35-plus year history.

Maya the Bee will follow a bee that wishes to escape her heavily regimented existence in the hive and explore at her own will. The production will bring together creative talent from Australia and Europe in the first ever animated feature to be produced as an official treaty co-production between the two countries.

“Maya the Bee has become a much-loved and revered character throughout Europe, the U.S. and Asia, entertaining television audiences with her joyful spirit for over 35 years, so we are thrilled to be going into production on Maya’s highly anticipated film debut,” says Jim Ballantine, managing director, Flying Bark Productions.

The original “Maya the Bee” TV series was first produced in the 1970s. Today, a new generation of fans enjoy the tales of “Maya the Bee” with a new 3D TV show, consumer products and publishing.
