After previously testing a pizza with a Kellogg meat substitute, Beyond Meat is partnering with Yum Brands’ Pizza Hut to add meatless sausage to its menu.
Beyond Meat has teamed with multiple restaurants in the past for burgers, including its recent partnership with Denny’s. However, this marks the first time Beyond’s meatless sausage will be sold through a chain restaurant in the U.S.
“What we learned from [the test with Kellogg] is that there’s a lot of people out there who really want plant-based meat, and there’s a huge appetite for this type of product,” says David Graves, chief brand officer, Pizza Hut U.S. to CNBC.
Yum Brands has teamed with Beyond Meat in the past for meat alternatives at Taco Bell and KFC in addition to the Pizza Hut partnership.
“Our partnership with Pizza Hut is a category first and together we will continue to raise the bar on game changing product innovations as we introduce the delicious taste of Beyond Meat products to pizza fans nationwide,” says Ethan Brown, chief executive officer and founder, Beyond Meat, in a Pizza Hut press release. “We’re thrilled to be on this journey with Pizza Hut that enables us to further increase access to better-for-you plant-based meat as we continue to expand our partnership with Yum! Brands.”
The meatless sausage is now available in the U.S., U.K. and Puerto Rico.
