The Jim Henson Company has appointed Melissa Segal to head a new position—senior vice president, global consumer products.

Segal previously founded Brandolution, a licensing and product agency. Since 2008, Brandolution represented The Jim Henson Company, where Segal helped grow licensing programs for TV shows, such as PBS' "Sid the Science Kid." The first "Sid" product line is set to debut in fall 2009.

In the company's new division, renamed to Brandolution JHC, Segal will oversee licensing deals for preschool TV properties "Dinosaur King" and "The Skrumps," as well as "Sid the Science Kid." Her division will also handle classic Henson properties, such as "Labyrinth," "The Dark Crystal," "Farscape," "Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas" and "Fraggle Rock."

Before Brandolution, Segal worked for Disney Consumer Products and also co-founded Evergreen Concepts, an independent licensing agency in 2003.
