SpongeBob SquarePants is bringing his home in a pineapple under the sea to Roblox. Gamefam, a metaverse game developer and strategist, has announced it is joining forces with Paramount Games Studio to release “SpongeBob Simulator,” the first official Roblox game built wholly around the universe of Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants.” 

“Deepening the connection with fans of our hit franchises through interactive and immersive experiences is a key facet of our long-term gaming strategy,” says Doug Rosen, senior vice president, games and emerging media, Paramount. “We’re excited to let fans step into Bikini Bottom and participate in the universe in a completely new way, and Gamefam’s expertise in creating and managing high-quality and engaging Roblox worlds makes them the ideal partner for us to expand into new horizons.” 

“SpongeBob Simulator” is a collecting game where players can go on an adventure with their friends around the world of Bikini Bottom. Players can unlock and collect “mini buddies” modeled after the series’ supporting cast, including snails, jellyfish and mini-clone versions of the characters. The experience will invite the more than 70 million daily users on Roblox to transform into SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs, Sandy Cheeks and other characters from the franchise as they visit this digital rendition of Bikini Bottom. Players will team up to explore a world featuring their places from the franchise, including Conch Street and eventually Goo Lagoon and Kelp Forest.

“SpongeBob Simulator” comes on the heels of Paramount and Gamefam’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Battle Tycoon” game on Roblox, which has drawn 19 million players since its launch in August.  

“SpongeBob Simulator” will be free on Roblox via most platforms and devices, including consoles, PCs, mobile devices and tablets, starting Jan. 26.
