“Minecraft” x Universal Studios Experience has created a new virtual world that combines attractions and experiences inspired by Universal Destinations & Experiences around the world as well as throughout the theme parks’ history. This DLC (downloadable content) features attractions and experiences inspired by all Universal Destinations & Experiences around the world, including Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Beijing Resort, Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Singapore.
Players start the adventure at the gates of Universal Studios, where Woody Woodpecker will greet users and ask for help in restoring the Universal Studios globe. As they venture forward, players will experience rides, shops, minigames and encounter characters like Shrek, Dracula, King Kong and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. There are eight islands to explore, including Hollywood, New York, San Francisco, Amity Island, Hill Valley, Lower Lot, Jurassic World and Skull Island.
For in-game merchandise, players can visit Back to the Future Gifts, Universal Studios Store, E.T. Toy Closet, Sahara Traders, Surf Shack, Jurassic Outfitters and Base Camp Provisions. In-game dining options include Hollywood & Dine, Universal Studios’ Classic Monsters Cafe, Amity Boardwalk Snacks, Isla Nu-Bar and many more.
Between all of the attractions hides a quest – some of the letters have disappeared from Minecraft’s Universal Studios Globe and there’s a reward for the explorer who finds them all. Players will head out on an adventure across the virtual theme park, completing film-themed minigames to advance.
In addition to the Universal Studios Experience, Universal Products & Experiences has launched four DLC maps, including Jurassic World, Jurassic World Adventures, Minions and How to Train Your Dragon – all available for download in Minecraft Marketplace.
“Our collaboration with ‘Minecraft’ over the past four years has enabled fans and game players alike to adventure, craft, build and create in worlds highlighting favorite franchises from Jurassic World to How to Train Your Dragon and beyond,” says Bill Kispert, senior vice president, general manager, games and digital platforms, Universal Products & Experiences. “This new offering is our biggest and most detailed ‘Minecraft’ map yet and invites fans into a virtual Universal Studios theme park featuring beloved attractions and experiences – present and past – inspired by Universal Destinations & Experiences around the world.”
