Sanrio, MetaZoo Games Partner to Introduce Interactive Trading Card Set
Kuromi’s Cryptid Carnival will drop on Nov. 15.
Sanrio is collaborating with MetaZoo Games to launch an interactive trading card collection that brings Sanrio’s characters into MetaZoo’s world of Cryptids and Chibis. The introductory set, Kuromi’s Cryptid Carnival, will feature more than 100 unique cards and will launch on Nov. 15.
“At Sanrio, we want to consistently surprise and delight our fans of all ages with creative ways to interact with their favorite characters,” says Craig Takiguchi, chief operating officer, Sanrio. “Kuromi’s Cryptid Carnival" caps off a banner year for our character-fan engagement across a range of platforms, from unveiling our record-breaking Hello Kitty Island Adventure game on Apple Arcade and reaching one million subscribers on our YouTube channel to driving massive community membership numbers in our ‘Roblox’ universe and meeting thousands of fans IRL across the U.S. with our Hello Kitty Cafe Truck. We are reimagining new Sanrio spaces for superfans and new fans across the globe.”
Fans will join Kuromi, My Melody and Hello Kitty as they venture into a mysterious, Kuromi-inspired carnival that seems to have popped up out of nowhere. MetaZoo’s “fourth wall effects” allow players to interact with their surroundings to help strengthen their cards and create a gameplay experience that changes from game to game.
“Our partnership with Sanrio will open the door and expose a new audience of young girls and women into the trading card community,” says Andy Mourat, president, MetaZoo Games. “This new collection has been a labor of love for our female artists, bringing forward an interactive world that girls will love and is unlike anything that has ever been experienced before in the trading card category.”
Each booster box trading card set includes 36 packs, 12 cards per pack. Sanrio fans can also purchase individual blister packs with Sanrio character promo cards, one booster pack and a metal coin.
License Global’s September/October 2023 issue highlighted how Sanrio is getting ready to celebrate Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary in 2024 with more licensed consumer products for fans worldwide.
