Video game maker PopCap Games has finalized a number of licensing deals that will expand its properties beyond the digital realm beginning with Plants vs. Zombies. These mark the first major licensing partnerships for consumer products in North America and Europe in PopCap’s 12-year history.
The first Plants vs. Zombies products will begin appearing this spring, with plans to bring Bejeweled and other franchises to fans in early 2013.
Partners signed for Plants vs. Zombies products include Bioworld Merchandising for apparel, headwear, bags and accessories; Jazwares for plush toys, figures and electronic accessories including headphones, USBs, speakers and device cases; Walls360 for a starting line-up of wall graphics including individual characters and exclusive bundles; Funko for Plants vs. Zombies versions of their distinctive Pop! Vinyl Figurines; MjC International for adult sleepwear and boxers; and Trends International for calendars and posters.
“We’re taking a measured, deliberate approach to licensing our IPs, focusing on quality brand extensions that expand our unique game icons and experiences for our fans in authentic, meaningful ways,” says Brennan Townley, director of brand licensing, PopCap Games. “The partnerships we’ve announced today represent partnerships with some of the most highly regarded licensees in their respective categories.”
