Endemol U.K. has launched Endemol Games, a new division specializing in online gaming. Endemol Games will be headed by Jurian Van der Meer, the newly appointed managing director.
Endemol Games will specialize in licensing and monetizing both Endemol and third-party entertainment properties in the gaming space. Van der Meer will report directly to Lucas Church, Endemol U.K.'s chief operating officer.
"Endemol U.K. has already established a strong position in the gaming space and the launch of Endemol Games underlines the importance of this significant growth area to our business," says Church. "Jurian has an exemplary track record in delivering games around our TV properties across all platforms and I'm extremely pleased to have him in this role."
The new division will work closely with global operation Endemol Worldwide Brands in distributing U.K.-created gaming properties internationally. Van der Meer will retain his international role at Endemol Worldwide Brands.
Endemol U.K. has partnered with many in the gaming sector, including Electronic Arts, Virgin Games, William Hill, Betfair and National Lottery. Recent releases include the U.K.'s new No. 1 pub quiz game based on Deal or No Deal; a range of betting games based on formats such as The Million Pound Drop, Deal or No Deal and Big Brother; a newly launched Deal or No Deal bingo website; and a diverse portfolio of games that have been distributed worldwide.
Van der Meer joined Endemol Group in 2001 as a member of the Central Creative Unit, responsible for all interactive, branded entertainment and advertiser related projects. In 2005, he joined Endemol U.K. as head of products and brand exploitation, responsible for all commercial and licensing activities in digital media. In 2007, his role was extended to include international business development around gaming.
