Mattel has granted Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana the licensing and broadcasting rights for “Thomas & Friends” in Canada. Through the deal, Nelvana acts as the property’s exclusive Canadian licensing agent across categories (excluding toys). “‘Thomas & Friends’ is one of the most iconic preschool brands of all time, and we’re delighted to partner with Mattel and welcome it into the Corus family,” says Pam Westman, head, Nelvana Enterprises. “With ‘Thomas & Friends,’ we are on the right track to engaging preschoolers on our network and delivering the world’s favorite tank engine on multiple platforms across Canada.” “Thomas & Friends” will air on Treehouse in Canada as well as the network’s non-linear platforms beginning Oct. 5.
