During a panel at Power-Con earlier this week, director Kevin Smith announced a new Netflix anime series based on Mattel’s “He-Man” character.

Titled “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” the new streaming show will be a direct continuation of the original ‘80s series. Smith will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Mattel Television taking on production duties, and Powerhouse Animation penning the series.

“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull but also their entire universe,” says Smith, according to Variety. “In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor. Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame; this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

Since debuting in the 1980s, “He-Man” has seen a pop-culture revival in recent years. Mattel recently leveraged the character for commercials in the U.K. and is working on a live-action reboot of “He-Man” for a theatrical release.
