Total spending this Mother’s Day is expected to reach $20.7 billion, according to the National Retail Federation’s Mother’s Day spending survey, conducted by BigInsight.

The NRF predicts that consumers will spend an average of $169 on mom this year, up 11 percent from last year’s $153.

Traditional gifts such as flowers, apparel and gift cards will remain popular, but many consumers are also planning to splurge with 14.1 percent of those surveyed (the highest in the survey’s history) saying they will buy electronics and 34.4 percent planning to purchase jewelry.
