U.K. DreamToys List Revealed

Amid expectations that this will be the best Christmas for British toy sales for four years Britain’s Toy Retailers Association released DreamToys 2014, its annual prediction of best-selling toys for the holidays.

 “Impulse sales of collectables and lower-priced toys are up, as are licenses from hit movies such as Frozen. These two factors have combined in the first six months of the year to deliver a six percent  growth in toy sales by value and a 17 percent increase in unit sales; the fastest growth rate since 2010, and one which suggests that Christmas 2014 might be the best for some time,” says Frederique Tutt, toys global industry analyst , NPD Group.

 “In addition to the significant growth in collectables and lower price toys, we have also seen a sustained trend over the last three to four years towards construction toys,” says Tutt.

According to NPD, Christmas accounts for 33 percent of the U.K.’s annual $4.8 billion toy sales, with children up to the age of 11 receiving an average of 37 toys, costing a total of more than $ 450.
