The Disney executive has left the company to run social media platform TikTok.

Kevin Mayer has announced he is leaving Disney to become the chief executive officer of TikTok and chief operating officer of ByteDance, the parent company for TikTok.
Mayer has served as chairman of Disney’s direct-to-consumer and international unit for the past two years. The position included oversight of Disney+. Before that role, he had previously served as the chief strategy officer for Disney.
Rebecca Campbell, the former president of Disneyland Resort, will be filling Mayer’s role at the Disney company. She will oversee Disney’s streaming businesses globally including Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu and Hotstar.
At TikTok, Mayer will report to ByteDance’s founder and chief executive officer Yiming Zhang. He will be responsible for driving the global development of ByteDance, along with corporate development, sales, marketing, public affairs, security, moderation and legal. He is also in charge of music, gaming, social networking service Helo and emerging businesses for ByteDance.
Mayer’s Disney departure becomes effective June 1.
