PLR IP Holdings, owner of the Polaroid brand, signed a six-year licensing deal with Starlight Marketing Limited to produce Polaroid-branded LCD TVs.
The flat panel TVs will be available in sizes ranging from 12-inch to 100-inch for retail later this year in the U.S. and Canada. The televisions are expected to reach approximately $500 million in retail sales. The TV deal builds upon a similar partnership signed in March, granting Starlight the rights to roll out Polaroid-branded stand-alone DVD and Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, e-book, readers, iPod docking station and home theater systems.
"The extended arrangement with Starlight will provide our customers with a comprehensive suite of home entertainment electronics," says Scott W. Hardy, president of PLR. "Polaroid-branded TVs from Starlight will embody sleek design with crystal-clear HD images combined with the value and quality the market demands."
Starlight has also appointed Manuel Madriz and Bill Taylor, former Polaroid executives, to lead the sales and marketing efforts for the TV category in the U.S.
