Sony Creative Products has appointed M&G to serve as the master stationery licensee for French children’s book series and animated cartoon Gaspard et Lisa.
M&G will be the exclusive master licensee for the franchise in mainland China. The deal marks the first time that M&G has served as a master licensee for a property. It also marks the first licensee for M&G’s recently launched licensing arm, M&G Cultural Creative. The new division will focus on all aspects of IP value creation including product development, sales channel strategy, marketing, PR and events, as well as brand licensing and crossover.
“This collaboration between ourselves, M&G Stationery and M&G Cultural Creative is highly significant,” says Takehiko Oya, licensing manager, global business group, Sony Creative Products. “It underlines the growth and ambition of M&G in the licensing market and the commitment of both M&G and SCP to the vast potential of the Gaspard et Lisa brand in China.”
Gaspard et Lisa was created by Anne Gutman and her husband, Georg Hallensblen. The characters have appeared in 40 books and an animated series broadcast in more than 80 countries. Sony Creative Products acquired the property in 2012.
