Licensing Mixtape: The Biggest Upcoming Games and Movies with Difuzed 2
We speak with Difuzed to figure out what new video game and movie titles licensees need to look out for in 2021.
This year has seen the gaming industry take a massive leap forward. As people worldwide stuck close to home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers turned to video games for entertainment like never before.
Video game analyst company, Newzoo, increased their revenue projection for the industry by $2.2 billion following the main run of the international stay-at-home orders. The company is projecting that the industry will earn more than $159 billion by year's end.
While taking a hit due to theater closures, the global box office is also coming off its strongest year. ComScore reported that box office revenue hit a record $42.5 billion in 2019. Those numbers are coupled with increased streaming opportunities, which point to pent-up demand for movies once things open back up again more thoroughly.
On the latest episode "Licensing Mixtape" podcast, License Global spoke with Difuzed to figure out what new video game and movie titles licensees need to look out for in 2021. Jeremy Orriss, Director of Licensing, Difuzed, and Daniel Amos, Head of Esports, Difuzed, highlighted the top titles in film and video games coming down the pipeline during our far-reaching conversation. From current hits such as "Animal Crossing" to upcoming consoles like the PS5 or soon to release films like "No Time to Die," this episode highlights fandom's biggest titles.
"I think one of the things is we're now seeing is the growth of the franchise," says Orris. "I think this is very important for retail because making the link between movies and games – the retailers are very, very scared in new game, because they've been bitten so many times by something coming out and not doing what the studio says it's going to do. So, I think that franchise piece is incredibly important from a retail security standpoint for us. It's about the fan knowing what's coming."
