Kindle Entertainment has entered a co-production agreement with Hachette U.K., which owns the rights to the Enid Blyton estate, to create a TV show based on Enid Blyton’s children’s book series, The Famous Five.
Kindle Entertainment plans to develop The Famous Five for today’s audience while retaining the core values of the original stories, first published in 1942.
“The Famous Five is one of the most successful children’s books series of all time, loved by three generations across the globe. We are over the moon to have the opportunity to bring these stories to life for today’s audiences,” says Melanie Stokes, founder and co-director, Kindle Entertainment. “With this year being the 70th anniversary of The Famous Five, it’s the perfect time to introduce a fresh new take on these much-loved adventurers.”
The TV series will add an element of time travel as it follows the protagonist George, a contemporary girl, and her dog Timmy, as they are transported back through the decades to Kirrin Bay, England, in 1954. There the Famous Five will embark on numerous adventures based on Blyton’s original plots.
