Shipping company P&O has launched an official website, which celebrates its rich history, pulling from an archive of travel posters, paintings, photographs and artifacts of more than 25,000 items.

The collection has already attracted attention from stationery and print licensees, and P&O Ferries has launched a range of products under license. The collection is maintained by Dubai-based global marine terminal operator DP World, which acquired the P&O group in 2006.

"In 2012, we will be celebrating the 175th anniversary of the founding of P&O, and the website will be a very important resource and focus for the celebrations we plan to mark this important year," says Mohammed Sharaf, DP World's chief executive officer.

The website also showcases P&O's extensive photographic collection, which has recently been cataloged and digitized for the first time. Visitors to the site can now browse through photographs, posters, paintings, drawings and postcards, and even order prints for delivery worldwide.

Susie Cox, curator of the P&O Heritage Collection, adds: "In commercial terms, the collection is particularly relevant to licensees with an interest in the romance of travel in the age of glamour."
