MIDDLE EAST–The Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic and Intellectual Sports and Global eSport Resources have joined forces to launch and develop a domestic and international Saudi eSports industry on behalf of, and in conjunction with, the Saudi Federation, a domestic and international Saudi eSport industry.
In addition to launching an eSports industry within the region, the two organizations will host a series of local competitions, consider international franchise integration, create a Saudi national team, host a FIFA tournament next month and create a marquee Saudi international tournament in late 2018. The tournament will have a multi-million-dollar prize pool hosted by the Saudi National Team and will be broadcast live to a worldwide audience.
The country also plans to build eSport facilities that will include the Federation headquarters, an eSports arena with broadcast capabilities and training facilities for the mental and physical training of eSport athletes.
"Working with a visionary like Prince Faisal and his team to make their dream of eSports as an instrument of social and cultural change makes this project extraordinary. Beyond the economic opportunities that developing a Saudi eSports industry represents, and they are significant, we are committed through our investment to being an equity partner in achieving the goals of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 plan,” says Tom Smith, managing director, Global eSport Resources. “Participating in the Crown Prince's vision for the future of Saudi Arabia is a historic opportunity and we are very proud and excited to help make this vision a reality."
