Lucasfilm Animation gave the world its first look a Chopper, a feisty droid who will play a prominent role in the forthcoming animated series, “Star Wars Rebels,” at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, taking place in Germany this week.

Unlike the typical droids in the Star Wars universe, Chopper is a lazy, cranky (if ultimately goodhearted) astromech droid.

"If R2-D2 is the family dog,” says Dave Filoni, executive producer of the show, “Chopper is the cat."

The design of Chopper, a.k.a. C1-10P, takes cues from early concept art for R2-D2.

“Star Wars Rebels,” which takes place four years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode IV, is scheduled to premiere this fall as a one-hour special on Disney Channel and will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.
