Henson Independent Properties, The Jim Henson Company’s third party media distribution and consumer products banner, has acquired global rights outside of Asia to D&H’s children’s brand I Love Egg.

The deal marks the first time that HIP has acquired a property for both global consumer products and international media distribution.

I Love Egg, which originated as a series of online shorts in Korea, has become an online sensation in Asia and spawned a range of merchandise including collectible figurines, apparel, publishing and food products.

HIP will screen “I Love Egg” interstitial content for international program buyers during MIPTV next month and plans to introduce its licensing strategy for the brand at the Licensing Show in Las Vegas, Nev., this June.

“As evidenced by the success of I Love Egg throughout Asia, this property comes to the marketplace with hundreds of characters and a proven success in such highly competitive product lines as collectibles, apparel, publishing and more,” says Melissa Segal, executive vice president of global consumer products, The Jim Henson Company. “In conjunction with the expansion of the interstitials, this range of wonderful assets already available provides an ideal licensing opportunity to grow the brand in other parts of the world.”
