Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Journeys in Film teamed up to create educational programs based on the movie Hidden Figures.

Created in partnership with the USC Rossier School of Education, the themed curriculum includes eight comprehensive, standards-aligned lessons plans for secondary students. Each lesson can be used independently or through a team approach, which gives students multiple lenses to consider the historical and contemporary issues raised in the film.

Events from Hidden Figures that are featured in the social studies lesson plans include: the increasing animosity between Communist nations and the West; the pressure-filled milieu in which the women at Langley were working; the vital role served by “human computers” in the space program; the costs of segregation; and the beginning of the modern civil rights movement.

Other branded lessons will analyze the film for theme and style as well as explore scientific notation, conic sections, orbits and programming for math and science classes.

The Hidden Figures lesson plans are now available for teachers throughout the U.S.
