In celebration of the comic strips “Oor Wullie” and “The Broons’” 80th anniversary, DC Thomson has unveiled a bronze sculpture of Oor Wullie in Dundee, Scotland, and is hosting The Broons Awards in Glasgow tomorrow.

Both comic strips debuted in 1936 in Scotland’s Sunday Post and have appeared in the paper every week since.

The Oor Wullie character has been cast in a four foot-tall bronze sculpture by artist Malcom Robertson and is located on the wall outside The McManus Galleries. Meanwhile, “The Broons” will mark its 80th anniversary with an awards ceremony. The event will celebrate families throughout Scotland and will reward those who share and demonstrate the same values as the newspaper the Sunday Post–honesty, decency, integrity, fairness and warmth–and those who go above to make a difference.
