Marquee Brands Acquires Dakine

Marquee Brands has acquired Dakine and all of its related intellectual property.

Marquee Brands has also signed a long-term licensing agreement with JR286, the company that has acquired the operating assets of Dakine and will serve as Marquee Brands’ long-term operating partner for the brand. JR286 will also retool Dakine’s core categories while maintaining dedicated teams for the brand in Hood River, Los Angeles, Calif. and Annecy, France. Ken Meidell, Dakine’s current chief executive officer, will join the Marquee Brands team.

Founded in 1979, Dakine is an outdoor sports and lifestyle brand that offers surf, snow and biking bags, backpacks, gear and accessories to outdoor enthusiasts. “Dakine is a high-quality brand with performance integrity and legacy of innovation that has allowed it to develop a fiercely passionate customer following, and which we believe is ripe with untapped growth potential,” says Zachary Sigel, managing director, Neuberger Berman. “This brand is truly emblematic of the types of acquisitions we seek to make for the Marquee Brands portfolio.”

The Marquee Brands’ portfolio includes Bruno Magli, Ben Sherman, Body Glove, BCBGMAXAZRIA, BCBGeneration and more.
