Nick Butterworth, creator of “Q Pootle 5” and the main character from the series, visited Withycombe Raleigh Church of England Primary School last week to honor the winner of its national school competition, which ran in October as part of World Space Week U.K.

The competition was designed to encourage young children to have a greater interest in space and asked schools to create a new friend for “Q Pootle 5.” Chloe Dudman, a 7-year-old from Exmouth, won the contest for her character Professor Fred.

The school was treated to a full day of entertainment from Butterworth, including interactive shows with live drawings, stories and a behind-the-scenes look at how “Q Pootle 5” jumped from page to screen. Costume characters also were in attendance.
