John Oswald, co-founder and former chief executive officer of Paul Frank, has taken on a new brand–Cuipo, a social enterprise working to protect and preserve the world’s endangered rainforest.

Cuipo, named after the endangered tree found in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, was founded by Southern California natives Gus Hurst and Tom Murray. The company uses revenue from product lines and partnerships to purchase parcels of endangered land for permanent preservation.

Cuipo has already inked deals with Fisher & Paykel Appliances, the Los Angeles Lakers, Nirve Bicycles, the Surfrider Foundation, Greendot Mobile Phone Covers, Enesco Gift, and most recently SIGG for reusable bottles, Sprout watches and Gund for plush toys.

“As a parent, I feel it is important to do everything we can to protect the rainforest for future generations,” says Oswald. “We have found great environmentally conscience partners to support us in our mission and look forward to finding many more.”
