Nearly $1.8 million was raised by Toys"R"Us for Autism Speaks through its fourth annual in-store fundraising campaign throughout the U.S.

During April, U.S. Toys"R"Us and Babies"R"Us stores, as well as online, collected cash donations to help the autism science and advocacy organization. In addition, stores in Canada participated in the campaign for the first time and contributed close to $600,000.

"For the fourth consecutive year, our customers and employees demonstrated their desire to help solve the autism puzzle by generously supporting our campaign to benefit Autism Speaks," says Jerry Storch, chairman and chief executive officer of Toys"R"Us. "At Toys"R"Us, we are committed to improving the lives of children and families in need, and we're proud that our efforts will help Autism Speaks fund much-needed research, as well as advocacy efforts."

This year, TRU's Children's Fund is serving as the North American sponsor for the Walk Now for Autism Speaks program, a series of more than 80 walk events throughout the U.S. and Canada. The fund also provided a $400,000 grant to Autism Speaks. Since TRU and Autism Speaks partnered in 2007, more than $8.4 million has been raised.
