Entertainment-themed toys lead the pack again as the holiday's hottest toys for children in the U.S., according to NRF's 2010 Top Toys survey, conducted by BIGresearch.
"It's never easy to anticipate the top toys every holiday season, so retailers make sure to stock their shelves with both traditional and trendy gift ideas," says Matthew Shay, NRF's president and chief executive officer. "With many retailers already discounting popular toys, parents should make sure to start their shopping sooner rather than later as hot merchandise is hard to keep around."

- Cars (generic)
- Disney-Pixar's Toy Story
- Hot Wheels
- Transformers
- Xbox 360
- Fisher-Price Toys
- Iron Man
- Nintendo Wii and Trucks (generic) (tied)
And popular picks for girls are:
- Barbie
- Dolls
- Dora the Explorer
- Video games
- Disney Princess
- Zhu Zhu Pets
- American Girl
- Fisher-Price toys
- Disney Hannah Montana
- Bratz
