Spending on Halloween costumes is expected to top $3.1 billion with 67 percent of consumers planning to purchase a costume this year.
According to the survey, more than 3 million kids will dress up as their favorite superhero, 2.9 million as their favorite princess and 2.5 million as a cat, dog or other animal. The complete ranking for children includes:
Superhero – 6.4 percent
Princess – 5.8 percent
Animal – 4.9 percent
Batman character – 4.8 percent
Star Wars
character – 3.7 percent
DC superhero – 3.2 percent
Witch – 3.2 percent

character – 3.1 percent

Meanwhile, Millennials are also planning to celebrate the holiday with licensed brands, with more than 9 percent planning to wear a Batman costume. The complete ranking for adults, ages 18 to 34, includes:
