Superheroes Top Halloween Costume Picks

More children than ever before will celebrate Halloween dressed up as their favorite superhero this year, pushing princess costumes to the No. 2 spot following an 11-year reign at the top of the list, according to the National Retail Federation’s 2016 Halloween Consumer Top Costumes Survey.

Spending on Halloween costumes is expected to top $3.1 billion with 67 percent of consumers planning to purchase a costume this year.

According to the survey, more than 3 million kids will dress up as their favorite superhero, 2.9 million as their favorite princess and 2.5 million as a cat, dog or other animal. The complete ranking for children includes:
