The jacket, made famous in the 1980's, is set to return to retail this fall during back-to-school season.
Marketing and advertising efforts will be led by Iconix Brand Group, owner of the Starter brand, and Carl Banks, former NY Giants player and president of G-III Sports, a division of G-III Apparel.
"Baseball and Starter go hand-in-hand. It's the ultimate expression of team pride," says Banks. "Although the satin jacket hasn't been produced for over a decade, it's still worn at ballparks across the country to this day. We look forward to re-introducing the iconic Starter satin jacket for baseball fans of all generations."
The jackets are set to retail at $150.
"As a retro look, the Starter jacket is one of the more iconic items in fashionable sportswear and we are excited to work with G-III Apparel Group and Iconix to revive
this classic look," says Howard Smith, senior vice president, licensing, MLB. "We expect fans to enthusiastically support this re-launch this fall."The jackets could make an appearance a little sooner than that though–this Saturday, the partners plan to hold an invite-only event for media, athletes, celebrities and industry tastemakers where 150 limited edition MLB All-Star jackets will be gifted to attendees.
