American Greetings Properties has partnered with fashion designer Jeremy Scott for an apparel collection inspired by the hit toy from the 1980s, Madballs.

Featuring grotesque faces, protruding eyeballs and zany names, Madballs bouncing balls were popular three decades ago, spawning an animated television series, a comic book series and video games.

The classic brand will now make its comeback in Scott’s fall/winter 2014 collection.

“I am a huge fan of Madballs and super excited for the opportunity to create something wearable out of a cherished childhood icon and something seemingly so gross,” says Scott. “The pieces I’ve created are fun and irreverent just the like spirit of the Madballs characters.”

Scott, who was recently named the creative director for Moschino, is no stranger to the world of fashion collaborations, having designed products for adidas, Longchamp, Swatch and Smart Car in the past.

“We’re extremely excited about collaborating with such an innovative and influential American designer like Jeremy Scott and to reinvent the brand for a new generation of Madballs fans with his stunning apparel line,” says Carla Silva, senior vice president of global licensing, AGP. “We are thrilled how Jeremy has been able to create such vibrant Madballs apparel pieces that retain the original spirit of the property.”
