Jewelrry designer Maria Nilsdotter has announced an accessories line inspired by “Mio in the Land of Faraway,” the novel written by Astrid Lindgren in 1954.

The collection will be released in four drops. Each capsule is accompanied with a short film where Maria Nilsdotter’s illustrations come to life in dreamlike animations with music by Markus Krunegård.

The collection is comprised of rings, earrings and necklaces in silver and gold vermeil, crowned with diamonds, mother-of-pearl and black spinels. It transforms the story of Mio’s journey into tokens of wonder: A celestial necklace featuring interlocking star charms, tracing the way through night and day to the magical land of Faraway. A chain harness centered by a bleeding heart dripping with garnet tears. A necklace with music note pendants in hammered silver, ascending from the mystical well whispering forgotten songs in the night, and the Bird of Sorrow with its silver wings spread high – all meant to be stacked and layered. A standout of the collection is a friendship necklace, in the shape of a gilded apple split in two.

“Granting

strength to face your fears and conquer what scares you, it all comes down to friendship,” says Nilsdotter. “We are ultimately bound to each other. With someone by your side, fear doesn’t stand a chance.”
