Disney Inks New Deals for ‘The Mandalorian’ and Baby Yoda

The Child – or “Baby Yoda” as fans have been calling it – will be represented in official merchandise for “The Mandalorian.”

The beloved new character was absent from the original marketing for “The Mandalorian” because showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni wanted to keep his appearance a surprise.

“I have to thank Disney and Lucasfilm, because the way the cat usually gets out of the bag with that stuff is merchandising and toy catalogs and things like that,” Jon Favreau, director, tells “Entertainment Tonight.” “So, they really back us up. That requires a lot of restraint from the people who are footing the bill, saying they’re gonna hold back on certain things so that the public doesn’t know ahead of time. Part of that was holding back on some of the merchandise and holding back on some of the characters.”

Now that the character has been revealed, he will be represented on apparel and accessories and be available through retailers like Amazon, Zazzle, Target, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Hot Topic and BoxLunch.

Exclusive products will also be available at the Disney Store, ShopDisney and at Disney Parks before the holidays. Presales for toys and plush will be available in the coming weeks.

Hasbro has announced a new line of “Star Wars” products featuring the Child, available now for pre-order. In addition, new items from Funko, Mattel, Buffalo Games and more have been revealed.

“It was important to us that the reveal of the new character, the Child, be a special moment for fans, and we could not be more thrilled with the response,” says Paul Southern, senior vice president, licensing and franchise, Lucasfilm. “We’re excited to release new products for pre-order on ShopDisney.com, and are continuing to work closely with our licensees and retailers to roll out additional items including toys, collectibles, plush, games, apparel and more, allowing fans to celebrate the newest addition to ‘Star Wars.’”

New announced products include The Black Series The Child figure, The Child talking plush and The Bounty Collection, which includes Baby Yoda in six different poses.

The pre-ordered products will be available for shipment in May 2020.
