Cartoon Network Styles ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Contest
Cartoon Network has partnered with London College of Fashion, UAL for a contest that challenges final year students to design an outfit inspired by the series.
Final year students were tasked with designing a “Powerpuff Girls”-inspired outfit for fall/winter 2019 that will be showcased on the first day of London Fashion Week, where a panel of judges will select the winning designs.
Fifteen groups, comprised of two-to-three undergraduate students, were selected to create a fashion look. Among those groups, eight were chosen to have their garments manufactured.
The creations will be displayed at Somerset House on Feb. 15 as the global fashion community gathers for London Fashion Week. Expert judges include Jessica Saunders, fashion program director at London College of Fashion, and Leila Loumi, international licensing director of softlines, health and beaty at Cartoon Network Enterprises. A first, second and third place winner will each be awarded a cash prize to be split among the group.
“The original ambassadors of girl power, ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ continue to lead from the front and inspire young women with their unique brand of fearlessness, determination and positivity,” says Loumi. “The property has found a very natural home at the heart of modern catwalk culture as style-savvy millennials seek out labels that resonate with their values. We are very excited to see how Britain’s future generation of designers interpret ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ creating new collections that ensure that its social and cultural relevance endures.”
Cartoon Network has also recently partnered with Moschino, Fyodor Golan, Katie Eary and Sabrina Pilewicz for “Powerpuff Girls”-branded fashions.
