Konami Digital Entertainment has released its first-ever role-playing card game in the U.S., based on Xbox 360 game Blue Dragon.

The Blue Dragon role-playing card game for ages 6 and up features the characters from the video game created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, as well as characters by Akira Toriyama, creator of the Dragon Ball comic series. The U.S. release includes two starter decks, Darker Shadow Wielder and Light Shadow Wielder, each retailing for $9.99. Each deck features 40 cards, including a Shadow foil card, a fold-out game mat and a beginner's guide. There are also Heroes Arise booster packs ($3.49 each) containing 10 cards each.

"The format offers us many opportunities to bring the best of the video game and of the animation into an innovative and kid-friendly game," says Yumi Hoashi, vice president of card business for Konami. "We wanted to create an evolving game-play experience that advances as the players master strategies, learn new abilities and one which has long-lasting play value."

Konami Digital Entertainment's portfolio includes a Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, as well as electronic titles Dance Dance Revolution and Karaoke Revolution.
