Punchdrunk, Niantic Team for ‘Sleep No More’ Partnership

Pokemon GO developer to bring “Sleep No More” into the world of augmented reality.

Punchdrunk and Niantic have partnered to create multiple augmented reality projects inspired by the "Sleep No More" immersive theater experience.

Punchdrunk, the theater company behind "Sleep No More," will be working with Niantic to create projects that combine the two company's expertise in theatrical performance and AR games. The partnership aims to establish advances in tech-empowered audience experience that will refine gaming and inspire new audiences.

"I believe that Punchdrunk and Niantic can create something that has never been done before," says Felix Barrett, artistic director, Punchdrunk. "They do it in AR; we do it in real life. Collide the two and I think we will blow people's minds; bend the rules of genre and redefine the norms of mobile gaming."

Niantic is a leading real-world AR company that made headlines with its mobile game, "Pokémon GO" in 2016. The company is teaming with Punchdrunk has been developing international theatrical experiences for 20 years that use immersive, multi-sensory storytelling. The theater company's immersive theater experience "Sleep No More" production has become an award-winning show since debuting in 2011 in New York City.
