2021 Creative Expo Taiwan took place from April 16-25 at three locations across Taiwan’s capital city, Taipei, including Taipei Expo Park - Expo Dome, which hosted the annual licensing exhibition.

The licensing exhibition brings together up-and-coming artists and illustrators with licensing and procurement agents, along with the public. More than 350,000 people visit Creative Expo Taiwan each year.

This year’s attractions included the Go Gashapon capsule toy vending machines and a feature exhibition curated by dosomething studio. Exhibiting licensing agencies included Sanrio and Muse, which represent marquee names such as Pingu and Hello Kitty.

Also included in the attractions is the Talent 100, which showcases a lineup of 100 rising artists and illustrators, their latest characters and artworks.

The five most popular Talent 100 artists, according to number of Instagram followers, are:

Chang Ya Ting is the illustrator behind ARROW, a cartoon series about teenage fashion and lifestyle in Taiwan. Chang’s cartoons are often based on conversations over LINE, which is Taiwan's most popular instant messaging app.

Created by Hsu-Wei Kao, OILHEADJUNIOR also bridges fashion and IP, having been featured in a cover story by GQ Taiwan. Some of Kao’s most recent cartoons have featured the likes of LeBron James and Hong Kong comedian Ng Man-tat.

Shaogao is the cartoon persona of Jonathan Yu. Aside from his cartoon illustrations, Yu also produces a comedy sketch show on his YouTube channel, which draws inspiration from current affairs and everyday life in Taiwan.

Mr.Doumiao is a talking bean sprout created by Chu Sheng-Chih. Chu’s cartoons try to help people see the brighter side of life and often utilize the contrast between darkness and beams of light to symbolize hope.

Hung Yu Ching is the creator of FoodieG, a comedy cartoon all about food and drink in Taiwan. Hung’s main character is a yellow duck, illustrated in a childishly cute and light-hearted style, which fans tune into as a source of relaxation.
